We’re here with another update after several weeks of heads-down time as we prepare for E3 and beyond. We’ve got some big challenges ahead, and you’ve got a front row seat to witness the vigorous process of bringing all of the separate pieces together. At this point in development, we’ve made a TON of content. It’s time to connect the dots and start filling in the gaps!
Meet the Worm Boss!
First, let’s look at something new: the Sand Worm Boss! This guy dominates the “Fire and Forget” chapter of the game, which you may recall as being one of our stretch goals. This persistent enemy will be making multiple appearances throughout the level. We don’t want to flat out spoil it, so we’ll just let you enjoy the concepts for now. This is our first attempt in Half-Genie Hero to make a rotating action scene, where the camera orbits the battle rather than being a direct side-view stage. With this boss appearing roughly halfway through the adventure, it will be a great way to break up the visuals.

Get ready for WATCH QUEST!
The first adventure game made exclusively for Apple Watch!
WayForward is pleased to unveil WATCH QUEST! – the first adventure game made exclusively for Apple Watch! Watch Quest is a new kind of game experience that spans two devices. The iPhone serves as the player’s kingdom, while the Apple Watch represents a journey that spans several hours.
Gameplay revolves around choosing a hero and equipping them on the iPhone, and then guiding the Hero via the Apple Watch as he or she travels lands, battles monsters, solves puzzles, and searches for treasures. Players are invited to play passively by selecting longer, easier quests and outfitting the hero up front – or by taking on more difficult quests which require foraging for items as you go.
The game comes free with one training quest, and follows a DLC model with additional characters and campaigns purchasable from within the iPhone app as Quest Packs.
Watch Quest! will share a launch date of 4-24-15 along with the Apple Watch.

Scuttle Town’s going “full circle” in Half-Genie Hero. We’re building out new concepts that take the original Game Boy Color version of the town laid out in a circular pattern and bring it into a 3D world. If you look closely, you can see that every vantage point you’ve enjoyed in the past 3 Shantae games are still faithfully intact! The front and rear gate, the scarecrow fields, and even the old Lighthouse bay. We can’t wait to start building the new Scuttle Town!
“You Are The Winner! Go You!”
WayForward is pleased to announce its next original game: “You Are The Winner! Go You!”
The game puts players in the boots of Gunster Megaboom, a mercenary from the 37th century sent back in time to stop time-travelers from preventing the apocalypse. Gunster is a danger-loving weapons expert, with a soft spot for latte foam art, who plays by NO ONE’S rules!
“The rules you play by are something new for us,” explains WayForward’s founder, Voldi Way. “People love our original characters and animation, but let’s be honest – WayForward games aren’t for babies. And we need to tap into that lucrative baby market if we’re going to thrive another 25 years.”
Creative Director Matt Bozon agrees. “With this project, we wanted a game that EVERYONE could appreciate. So we did extensive focus testing, with participants ranging from age 2 to 104. The results were surprising. Some players couldn’t beat the bosses. Some couldn’t defeat enemies. Others couldn’t shoot. Or jump. Or move at all, really. One guy just hated pressing buttons. We’ve solved ALL of that.”
The game was developed using WayForward’s innovative new ‘PlayForMe’ technology, which enables gamers of literally any age and skill level to succeed. PlayForMe automatically collects coins, avoids obstacles, and defeats enemies and bosses before they ever get close.
“You Are The Winner! Go You!” comes out this Fall on PC and all major consoles.

Say Hello to SlimeGal!
While for most of you it’s been a while since our last update (sorry about that), a smaller group of Backers has been working with the dev team intensely on backer-created content for several weeks now. Today we’d like to reveal the first of our Backer-Designed enemies, the SlimeGal!
The SlimeGal was designed by backer A.J., with his idea being a slime-based enemy capable of changing shape. She’s not overly malicious, just a creature looking for her next meal. A.J.walked us through several design iterations, with him writing additional thoughts, moves, and adjusting to the game’s needs. We worked on dozens of possible designs and color schemes, with A.J. directing us towards the version you see here. We couldn’t be happier with the results, and feel that she fits wonderfully into the existing universe.
Hello friends, fans, and game industry folks! WayForward would like to formally invite you to join us in celebrating 25 years as an independent game developer. Voldi Way founded the company in 1990, (naming it in honor of Sci-Fi writer Douglas Adams) with the goal of building a one-of-a-kind studio where passionate people could create great games together. A quarter century and countless titles later, Voldi’s entrepreneurial spirit still drives WayForward forward. From Fun Pack to Pirate’s Curse, we’ve poured every ounce of our energies into making memorable characters, music and stories while always putting game play first. Throughout 2015 we would like to celebrate with you in a variety of ways, including new titles featuring familiar characters and even a few new faces. And as you might expect we’ll throw the number 25 around now and again, just to get a cheap laugh.
Speaking of cheap, our first (and probably best) way to kick things off is by putting as many of our “fan favorite” titles on sale, with many being reduced to a mere 25% of the original price. A sale like this requires coordination by many of our partners worldwide so prices and dates are subject to change. Check back here for up to the minute details.
