I’m not sure whether or not this a joke, but in the bad ending of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, Shantae’s “uncle” Mimic tells Shantae that he found plans from the “Old World” for an “8-bit, handheld video game.” Now, eight-bit video games themselves are from the 1960’s – 70’s; far beyond the time one would think the world of the Shantae series takes place in.

Speaking of the Shantae series and its time period, I remember the Gaijin Goomba made a video in which he believes the Shantae takes place in the country, Turkey. He said a very particular line that got me thinking about this in the first place.

Remember Tassel Town, and how desert-like it is? Well…

“And while Turkey doesn’t necessarily have any large deserts to speak of; desertification is becoming a BIG issue over there.”

This means that, although there is still a possibility the Shantae series could take place in an alternate version of our time, evidence is highly pointing to the former idea that the Shantae series could very well take place in the future, in which Turkey contains at least ONE desert.

What do you all think? I know I threw my thoughts hastily and imperfectly together, so I would love to hear some criticism, as well as what you liked about this theory.
