Retro co-op beat-’em-up available in multiple versions at

Exciting news from River City: the physical versions of 16-bit beat-’em-up River City Girls Zero are now available for preorder on! This classic entry in the River City/Kunio-kun series has never been previously released outside of Japan, and will be offered as a physical release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 as an open preorder until March 13, 2022. (A digital release is also planned for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5, as well as Xbox and PC, in early 2022.) If you haven’t seen the explanatory trailer yet, check it out here!

River City Girls Zero was originally published in 1994 on Super Famicom under the name Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka, which provided inspiration for our 2019 release of River City Girls. In River City Girls Zero, players will hit the streets with hot-blooded heroines Misako and Kyoko alongside series mainstays Kunio and Riki in one- or two-player local co-op action using a variety of punches, kicks, throws, and character-specific special moves as they attempt to absolve Kunio and Riki of a crime they didn’t commit.

Powered by Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine, the classic 16-bit graphics, soundtrack, and gameplay are augmented with new opening and closing motion-comic cutscenes, a new animated intro, and additional music by River City Girls composer Megan McDuffee. The game also features both classic and RCG-style English translations.

Alongside the game’s physical standard edition ($34.99), River City Girls Zero is also being offered in goodie-packed Classic and Ultimate Editions that collectors won’t want to miss. The Classic Edition ($64.99) includes a soundtrack CD, double-sided 18″x24″ poster, and retro-style box in addition to the game itself, while the Ultimate Edition ($149.99) includes everything in the Classic Edition plus exclusive, fully-articulated Misako and Kyoko action figures (with interchangeable hands and faces), a retro cartridge keychain, and a bonus digital game download code. River City Girls Zero merchandise — including trading cards, collectible coins, a hat, and a t-shirt — are also available.
