The Last Backer Enemy is in Captivity… the Galaxy is at Peace.
This is it! The final Backer Enemy to appear in Half-Genie Hero! Say hello to Tuki, the sneaky, snakey seller of magical secrets by Backer Matt B! Matt B worked with our Matt B on several designs, and eventually landed on this devious shop keeper rather than a traditional combat enemy. Tuki will appear at various points throughout the game to offer the player new dances in exchange for old ones. What could go wrong? Traditional enemy? – No. Interesting choice? Abso-slither-lutely!”
Now this is a very interesting design choice! The possibility of ending up with ineffective dances is intriguing for multiple reasons, such as whether it’d be a permanent consequence or recoverable somehow, and whether there might be rare secret advantages.
The prospect of there simply being more dance animations is obviously very neat, and this might open up a whole new category of challenges and accolades. “Beat x with y ineffective dance!” and stuff could add a lot of amusing (and frustrating!) replayability.
I’m quite looking forward to see how this enemy’s effects pan out.
I like her. She can have levels designed around her limiting what you can be transformed into, make you traverse the level with a limited version of your arsenal. And if players/speed-runners find away to dodge Tuki’s triggers, then they can explore the level with ALL their tools and find hidden content! Large levels with plenty of paths to explore!~
This makes me excited, reminds me of the original Shantae level designs 😀 I’m making a lot of assumptions here lol
<3 Tuki
The different dance moves you can exchange with Tuki will add more reply value to the game when searching & finding new secrets.
Depending on the transformations Shantae will get from Tuki, Shantae might not be able to attack curtain enemies or cause much damage to them (snakes for example). Then again her transformations could help other enemies, mini bosses, main bosses (makes them more stronger, give them extra powers or causes more enemies to appear & attack Shantae) or even help Tuki to battle/ back stab Shantae later on in the game.
The animals Shantae can turn into from Tuki may not be that useful.. Also if Tuki dances have some type of curse to them, there a chance Shantae could be in that transformation for a short/ long period of time in the game before she can transform back into a 1/2 genie.
Some of Tuki dance moves could mess up the controls & button configuration on your controller for Shantae & her animal transformations for a short period of time?
Maybe Tuki dances will effect Shantae, health, she might be poisoned, power, abilities, speed, jump, her hair (she can’t attack with her hair or it dose low damage even with the power ups & upgrades),she can’t use any of her items in her inventory, she limited to the amount of items she can hold in her inventory &/or other dances/transformations for example?
One of Tuki dance move/curse could be every time Shantae use any of her dance moves she will lose a small amount of money for a short period of time?
So there is a small chance then Tuki could end up being a mini boss depending on what dances Shantae exchanges for new ones? I wonder what Tuki will do with the dances Shantae has given her. Would Shantae be able to get any of her transformations back from Tuki & if she can will they be cursed in any way?
Tuki &/or other enemies could end up being secret mini bosses or secret main bosses (Indivisible secret boss) depending on what dances/ transformations Shantae takes from her & what secrets they unlock in the game.
Will Tuki dance move have a different effect (good &/or bad) every time Shantae uses it (PokeMon Metronome attack comes to mind)?
Will you have to exchange a least one dance move with Tuki to progress in the game? Would there be any type of achievement/ trophy if you don’t exchange any dance moves with Tuki?
If Nega-Shantae/ A Dish Served Cold chapter got fully funded, I could see Tuki giving some of her & Shantae’s dances to Nega-Shantae. i would think that all of Nega-Shantae dances and transformations would be completely different to Shantae’s & The New Guardian Genie dances & transformations.
I wonder what new dances Tuki would offer to Nega-Shantae & The New Guardian Genie?
I guess there’s more of a chance of mini games & dance battles with Shantae, The New Guardian Genie (Fire & Forget bonus chapter) & Tuki. If this was to happen then Nega-Shantae could be a secret boss battle/ dance off in the mini game.
It will be interesting to see what type of dances Tuki will have & how it will effect Shantae in the game if she uses them.
I like her design and I like the idea of interchangeable dances. It adds more depth to what you can do and how you can explore the environments.
That sounds like an intriguing concept. You could really add a lot of depth and complexity to the game with this.
Excellent choice to give her the added depth to affect Dance Transformations. Maybe she’ll be helpful, harmful or both, I’m onbaord with this character 100%.

Sorsha-WF Said, i quote:
“In order to be able to pay for the game and all the stretch goals, we had to make the Kickstarter. We did not have the funds to start it until our Kickstarter was born. We did have to delay the project just a bit to adjust for the additional features and chapters that our generous and wonderful backers achieved through the stretch goals, but we’re currently on track for a Winter 2015/2016 release date!”
Winter 2015/2016, eh? “on the road to Alpha” eh?
Either that must be a quicky-picky alpha or a “before the beta comes out” thing.
Since i see still a “comming soon” for the date and a now calling “on the road to Alpha” it is a real disapointment so see that wayforwas -really- opend a Kickstarter way way WAY to early for a game which comes -now- after 1 1/4 (and STILL not done yet) in the “Alpha” – if not longer. Whats the next goal? Easter? Halloween? X-Mas 2016? Or maybe Valentine 2017~?
Play with open cards, you guys had never been finished the game back in 2014 in the frist place. So you lied not only to a couple of backers, you just milked the “fanbase” for a character which shakes their boobs for some more money for a game which is heavy delaid. Dont you think its not time for make a usefull news “why” actually the game was never done as said earlier~? Dont you think the backers -ARE- waiting for the game they actually -“donated”- for~?
Since this is not the first time i already said those “news” it would pretty much amuse me to write a dev review of this game which doesnt even exist so far (only as demo) or which was not mean to be finish at 2014 at the first place.
So you should finally play the cards on the table and come out with a release date since i guess it will be -not- this soon. You sure dont “have to” tell that since i doubt you guys even know when since winter leasts till march normaly…
