Programmers :
Please apply for positions directly listed below.
Game Designer/Directors:
WayForward has adopted the title of “Director” for the visionary that is responsible for the game’s production from start to finish. Typically this is a Game Designer/Director who works well with a team, or is capable of recruiting team members as needed. They must be able to work with a variety of budgets, technical limitations, and specialists to see their designs through to timely completion. The Director works along side the Producer to complete finished products that will stand out in the marketplace. The Director will work with leads of every discipline, and must be able to communicate well with programmers about every aspect of production. Strong leadership qualities and the ability to collaborate and inspire the confidence in WayForward’s clients is absolutely essential. A well rounded history of gaming and familiarity with entertainment/toy brands is required. Please send a resume and product history. Applicants with 3 years industry experience and several previously published titles are preferred. Qualified applicants will be scheduled for an on-site interview.
3D Modelers:
Please send a resume and links to pertinent samples. We have common need for high and low poly characters, props, and environments. These can range from US branded characters, to anime, to realism. Environments can range from simple sets and props to level building components, to full environments. A standard but short test will be sent to qualified applicants.
Pixel Modelers:
Please send a resume and links to pertinent samples. WayForward has ongoing need for artists who can translate branded and original characters into a wide variety of technical restrictions, and retain the character’s likeness and integrity. This can range from tiny 8×8 pixel icons to 256×256 high color animation clean up and everything in between. A standard but short test will be sent to qualified applicants.
Character Animators:
A foundation in traditional Character Animation is strongly suggested. Please send a resume and link to sample animations in AVI, Quicktime, or Flash format, or as animated Gifs for low pixel work. Please include a description of your work process, and which parts of more complicated scenes you contributed to. Please include a bit about your process, and your tools of choice. A standard but short test will be sent to qualified applicants. We have common need for 3D character animators, traditional animators, and effects animators in both 2D and 3D.
Tileset Artists:
Please send a resume and links to pertinent samples. Include a technical description of the restrictions for each tileset. EX: number of tiles, colors, indexes, layer counts, or comparable hardware like “this was done in a Sega Genesis friendly format”. We have a wide range of needs for tileset artists ranging from low color mobile games to highly painted PC or DS backgrounds. A standard but short test will be sent to qualified applicants.
Graphic Designers/Technical Artists:
Please send a resume and links to pertinent samples. WayForward often has need of Graphic Designers to create look & feel for products with menu driven elements, and Technical Artists to break the elements down into usable art assets. For Graphic Designers, sensibilities to entertainment/kids brands is essential. This role sometimes overlaps into platform specific elements such as Nintendo’s WiFi Connection standards, or into localizing a game’s menus to several languages. A standard but short test will be sent to qualified applicants.
Level Designers:
Please send a resume and links to pertinent samples. Or if possible, links to levels that can be downloaded and played. Games like Mega Man Powered Up (PSP) or Mario March of the Minis (DS) have great level design interfaces that let us see how your ideas play out. Also describe the types of games you enjoy and seek to develop for. Qualified applicants will be given a test on-site.
Testers:
We have an ongoing need for testers who can work alone or as a team, at a wide variety of schedules and locations. Testing for WayForward is based on need, and tends to be seasonal at the end of major production cycles. Please send a resume, and hours you are willing and able to work on site. You will be contacted in the order received, with preference given to previous testers. We highly recommend that our testers solicit multiple companies since we currently can not offer ongoing work.
